THE EARLY YEARS 1978-1982

The story has become legend, myth.  In 1978, a young Madonna leaves Michigan and lands smack dab in the middle of Times Square in New York City with nothing but $35 in her pocket and the coat on her back.  Without knowing a soul, she somehow manages to become one of the biggest self-made icons of all time.  Her story is the classic "dream come true" tale, and it's fascinating how through talent, luck, and pure ambition Madonna would cause a cultural earthquake and become the mega-star she is today.

Unbelievably, Madonna would rely on the kindness of total strangers and lovers to get what she needed to survive- and would meet Dan Gilroy.  Soon Madonna would become a member of Dan's group, The Breakfast Club.  The band would also perform under the name Emmy.

Madonna would become a part of the underground New York club scene- haunting such legendary nightclubs such as Max's Kansas City and CBGB's.  She took on the form of a sponge, soaking up everything around her.  The wheels were turning.

In 1979 Madonna filmed a small budget art film entitled "A Certain Sacrifice".

To make ends meet, Madonna also did a lot of modeling and posed nude for art classes.
